Jefferson, MO (December 06, 2024) – A multi-vehicle crash occurred earlier today on Highway 21, north of Peachtree Plaza Drive, involving four vehicles. The incident was reported at approximately 10:50 AM, and initial investigation indicates that three vehicles were slowing down in response to a vehicle turning ahead. However, a 19-year-old female driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla failed to stop in time, striking the rear of a 2024 Ford Econoline.
The impact pushed the Ford Econoline into a 2013 Ram 1500, causing it to strike the rear of a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox. The Chevrolet was able to drive away from the scene, but the Toyota Corolla sustained total damage and was towed by Ives Towing.
The driver of the Toyota Corolla, a 19-year-old woman from Hillsboro, MO, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Valle Ambulance. The drivers of the other vehicles involved – a 24-year-old male from Warrenton, MO, driving the Ford Econoline, a 77-year-old male from Hillsboro, MO, driving the Ram 1500, and a 70-year-old female from Fletcher, MO, driving the Chevrolet Equinox – were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol, with assistance from CPL. B.J. Magnan.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for her full recovery.
Vehicle Accidents in Missouri
Multi-vehicle accidents like this one can often lead to a chain reaction, with one vehicle striking another and pushing it into additional cars. The cause of this particular crash – a failure to stop in time – highlights the importance of maintaining a safe following distance, particularly when driving on highways where other drivers may be slowing down or stopping for traffic.
In Missouri, crashes involving multiple vehicles often result in severe damage and injury, especially when one vehicle does not respond in time to traffic conditions. This incident serves as a reminder to all drivers to stay alert, reduce speed when necessary, and ensure they have ample stopping distance, particularly when driving in areas with traffic flow changes or vehicles ahead.
