Jefferson County, TN (December 3, 2024) – A tragic crash occurred in Jefferson County on Monday afternoon, resulting in the death of a driver and injuries to two others. The accident took place at approximately 5:00 PM at the intersection of Snyder Rd and Hwy 25/70. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), a Ford Fusion was traveling north on Snyder Rd while a Ford Expedition was heading east on Highway 25/70.
THP’s preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Fusion, 73-year-old Aldon Vaughn, failed to stop at the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side by the Expedition. The force of the collision caused the Fusion to veer off the roadway and slide down an embankment. The Expedition, after impacting the Fusion, rolled onto its side and also slid down an embankment. Despite emergency responders’ swift actions, the driver of the Fusion succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene. Meanwhile, the driver and passenger in the Expedition suffered injuries and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities are focusing on the failure to yield at the intersection as a potential factor.
