The Ford, driven by a 17-year-old female juvenile from Festus, attempted to swerve to avoid the collision, but the front of the Kia struck the front of the Ford. Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Pippin’s Towing.
The 17-year-old Ford driver sustained injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital Jefferson by a personal vehicle. An 11-year-old male juvenile occupant of the Kia also sustained injuries and was transported to the same hospital by Joachim Plattin Ambulance District. Both injured individuals were wearing safety devices, which likely mitigated the severity of their injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the factors contributing to the incident.
Intersection Collisions in Missouri
Intersections, such as US-67 and Montauk Rd, are frequent sites of vehicle collisions due to the complexity of navigating traffic and potential visibility challenges. Crashes often occur when one vehicle fails to yield, as seen in this case, leading to sudden impacts that can cause significant damage and injuries.
Missouri traffic safety data highlights the importance of defensive driving and adherence to right-of-way laws to prevent intersection collisions. For drivers, slowing down and maintaining awareness at intersections is critical to reducing risks.
