Jefferson County, MO (December 16, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred on Southbound Old 21, south of Rhonda Sue Drive, on Monday morning at approximately 9:56 a.m. The crash involved a 2015 Jeep Wrangler and a 2014 Jeep Cherokee.
The driver of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler, a 19-year-old male from St. Louis, MO, was traveling southbound when he attempted to avoid a collision with the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 59-year-old female from Imperial, MO. In the process, the front driver’s side of the Jeep Wrangler struck the rear passenger side of the Jeep Cherokee.
After the impact, the Jeep Wrangler veered off the right shoulder, then swerved back onto the roadway, crossing the center line before leaving the road again and skidding down an embankment. The Jeep Cherokee came to a stop on the roadway.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee sustained minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital for further evaluation. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was not reported injured. Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene by Miner’s Towing.
Local law enforcement is investigating the cause of the collision. Early reports suggest the accident may have been caused by the attempt to avoid a collision, but further details are pending.
Two-Vehicle Collisions in Missouri
Two-vehicle accidents, such as this one on Southbound Old 21, can be triggered by sudden maneuvers, driver inattention, or attempting to avoid obstacles. While the driver of the Jeep Wrangler attempted to avoid a collision, these types of evasive actions can sometimes result in more severe outcomes, especially when they lead to skidding or veering off the road.
Jefferson County emergency responders acted quickly to secure the scene and assist the individuals involved. Accidents on rural or less-traveled roads can be particularly dangerous due to the presence of sharp turns, uneven shoulders, or the risk of vehicles skidding after losing control.
Drivers are urged to remain cautious and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, especially when attempting to avoid potential hazards on the road.
