Jasper County, MO (December 07, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on MO 171 in Carterville at approximately 11:45 PM on December 06, 2024. A 17-year-old male driver from Webb City, MO, was traveling northbound in a 2000 Ford F150 when the vehicle struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the roadway. The pedestrian, a 31-year-old male from Eagle Rock, MO, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Deputy Coroner Andrew Roughton at 11:53 PM.
The Ford F150 sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Schrader’s Towing of Carthage. The 17-year-old driver, who was wearing a safety device, was not injured. The crash marks Troop D’s 105th fatality for 2024.
The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from TPR. T.C. Smith, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, and the Carterville Police Department. Authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
