Jacksonville, FL (October 7, 2024) – A devastating accident occurred early Sunday morning on Interstate 95, resulting in the tragic deaths of a woman and a young girl, as well as critical injuries to several children. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place around 2:20 a.m. near Pecan Park Road.
Reports indicate that a woman from Jacksonville was driving southbound in the northbound lanes for reasons that remain unclear when her vehicle collided with another car. The crash claimed the life of the 3-year-old girl who was a passenger in the woman’s vehicle, along with the driver. Additionally, three other child passengers, aged 1 to 5 years old, sustained critical injuries. The driver of the other car, a 42-year-old man from Jacksonville who was traveling in the correct direction, also suffered serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s report did not clarify whether the woman was related to the children involved in the accident. It was noted that neither the adults nor the children were wearing seatbelts or using child restraints at the time of the collision.
This tragic incident is part of a concerning trend in the area, as it follows the recent deaths of three teenagers from Jacksonville and Neptune Beach in separate traffic accidents, two of whom were pedestrians.
