Jacksonville, FL (January 23, 2025) – A fatal crash involving two tractor-trailers early Thursday morning claimed the life of one driver and led to significant traffic disruptions on I-10 near Cecil Commerce Parkway. The tragic incident occurred around 5:45 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).
Troopers reported that a 45-year-old semi driver from New York slowed his vehicle for traffic on I-10 East when another tractor-trailer in the same lane failed to reduce speed and rear-ended his truck. The collision caused the second semi to catch fire. Tragically, the driver of the burning truck was unable to escape the cab and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased driver.
The driver of the first truck, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time, escaped uninjured. FHP confirmed that all eastbound lanes of I-10 near the crash site were closed for several hours as investigators examined the scene and crews worked to clear the wreckage. Traffic was diverted onto State Road 23, leading to significant delays. The roadway was reopened around 3 p.m.
Our thoughts are with the family of the victim during this incredibly difficult time.
Semi-Truck Crashes in Florida
Tractor-trailer accidents are among the most severe on Florida roadways, often leading to devastating injuries and loss of life due to the sheer size and weight of these vehicles. Rear-end collisions, particularly at high speeds, are a leading cause of fatal truck accidents, as they often result in fires or structural collapses in the impacted vehicles.
The stretch of I-10 near Cecil Commerce Parkway is a heavily traveled route for commercial trucks, contributing to the risk of such incidents. Factors such as driver fatigue, distractions, or insufficient stopping distances frequently play a role in crashes involving large trucks.
For families coping with the aftermath of a fatal truck accident, the process of recovery can be both emotionally and financially overwhelming. Understanding their rights and seeking legal guidance can provide crucial support during such challenging times.
