Jacksonville, FL (January 14, 2025) – An 89-year-old man from Jacksonville tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning on U.S. 1 near the Duval-Nassau County line. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating the incident.
According to the FHP report, the man was driving a 2004 Toyota Tacoma northbound on U.S. 1 when his vehicle veered off the road. The truck first struck a brick mailbox on the right side of the roadway before continuing into a ditch, where it overturned. The vehicle then collided with a fence, a flatbed trailer, a parked truck, and finally a tree near AJ Welding and Repair.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine what may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.
