Jackson, NE (January 1, 2025) – A tragic collision on Highway 20 near Jackson claimed the lives of two drivers and left two passengers injured Friday evening. The crash occurred around 7:24 PM between Norway Ave and 143rd St and involved a Nissan Maxima and a GMC Sierra pickup.
According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, 68-year-old David Podany of Allen, Nebraska, was driving the westbound Nissan Maxima. The eastbound GMC Sierra, driven by 26-year-old Christopher Wedmore of Lawton, Iowa, collided with the Maxima under foggy conditions, which officials said were a contributing factor. Both drivers died at the scene.
The GMC Sierra had two passengers: a 26-year-old woman and a three-year-old boy, both of whom sustained injuries and are listed in stable condition. Rescue units from Dakota Covington Volunteer Rescue, Ponca Volunteer Rescue, and South Sioux City Rescue responded to the scene.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol, is conducting an ongoing investigation. Our thoughts are with the injured pedestrian, and we hope for a full recovery.
