Jackson, MO (January 06, 2025) – A tragic incident unfolded at approximately 4:20 PM on Ashland Ave, located just north of 20th St. Emergency responders from Jackson Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene shortly after the crash, where they provided care to a variety of individuals injured in the collision. The crash involved a 2017 International dump truck and a 2005 Honda CRV, both of which were in a series of unfortunate events leading to one fatality and one injury.
The dump truck, which was heading northbound, slid on the roadway after coming to a stop to drop off a passenger. In doing so, it struck a pedestrian and also collided with the parked Honda CRV. The 37-year-old driver of the dump truck, a male from Blue Springs, MO, suffered injuries. He was promptly taken to Centerpoint Hospital by EMS for treatment. Tragically, a 61-year-old male pedestrian from Independence, MO was struck and pronounced dead at 4:34 PM by the Inter City Fire Protection District.
The crash investigation, led by CPL C.L. Purnell and MCIU Crash Team Member MSGT J.M. Toal, is ongoing. Authorities have confirmed that the next of kin for the pedestrian have been notified. At present, the crash is being classified as the first fatality of 2025 for the region.
