Ironton, OH (November 6, 2024) – A tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Tuesday evening at approximately 6:26 p.m. on State Route 522, resulting in the death of an Ironton man. The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to reports of a fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a truck near mile post 6.
The incident involved Clinton Barnard, a 33-year-old resident of Ironton, who was riding a 2000 Honda Goldwing in a northwest direction on State Route 522. After passing another vehicle, Barnard lost control of his motorcycle, which veered left of center. The motorcycle subsequently laid down and collided with an oncoming truck traveling southeast.
The truck, a 2009 Freightliner driven by 39-year-old Zachary Messer from McDermott, was struck by Barnard’s motorcycle in the southeast bound lane. Unfortunately, Barnard succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Green Township Fire Department, and Scioto County Coroner’s Office, worked diligently at the scene. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
