Iron County, UT (November 8, 2024) – A truck driver sustained injuries and may face criminal charges after an early-morning crash involving two trucks on Interstate 15 near mile marker 46, just north of the Kanarraville rest area, on Thursday.
Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Clay Allred reported that the crash, which occurred at approximately 4:49 AM, involved a Penske box truck and a Volvo semi-tractor trailer. Both vehicles were traveling northbound when the box truck, either stopped or significantly slowed in the right lane, was struck from behind by the semi-truck.
The collision caused the box truck to veer off the road and crash into a deer fence on the shoulder. The semi-truck, heavily damaged from the impact, came to a stop in the right lane, temporarily blocking traffic. Emergency crews responded to the scene to assist the injured driver of the box truck and clear the roadway.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash, and the driver of the box truck may face criminal charges depending on the findings.
Heavy Vehicle Collisions on Utah Highways
Collisions involving large trucks, like this incident on I-15, often result in severe damage and significant traffic disruptions. Such accidents are commonly caused by improper lane use, driver fatigue, or sudden stops, which can make highways dangerous for all road users.
To reduce the risk of truck-related accidents, all drivers should ensure proper lane usage, maintain safe following distances, and adhere to speed limits. Truck operators, in particular, must remain vigilant and take precautions to avoid stopping in active lanes whenever possible.
