Indianapolis, IN (September 7, 2024) – Early this morning, two Indianapolis Fire Department firefighters were injured on I-65 SB near 38th St while responding to an incident. At approximately 4:08 AM, while awaiting Indiana State Police, a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man crashed into the scene, striking both firefighters. The collision occurred as one firefighter was thrown into the air, while the other was pinned under the car.
Immediate medical assistance was provided by fellow firefighters. The injured were transported to Eskenazi Hospital; one with minor injuries was later released, and the other remains hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening conditions. Indiana State Police are investigating the incident, focusing on alcohol and speed as potential factors.
