Indianapolis, IN (February 22, 2025) – A deadly crash involving two cars and a semi-truck occurred early Saturday morning at the intersection of East McCarty Street and Madison Avenue in downtown Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to the scene just before 3:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious collision.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a heavily damaged Nissan, Kia, and semi-truck. Tragically, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other individuals were transported to area hospitals with injuries. Two victims remain in critical condition, while another is in stable condition. The suspected driver underwent a standard blood draw and medical evaluation as part of the investigation.
According to initial reports, the Nissan was traveling south on Madison Avenue when it struck the Kia, which was moving east on McCarty Street. The impact caused the Kia to rotate and collide with the semi-truck, which was facing northbound at the intersection after exiting I-70. Witnesses told investigators that the Kia had the right of way, with a green light, when the Nissan ran a red light. The semi-truck was also stopped at a red light at the time of the crash.
Authorities closed the ramp from I-70 to McCarty Street and Madison Avenue while the crash scene was investigated. IMPD has not determined the exact cause of the accident, and further details are expected as the investigation continues.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased, and we hope for a full recovery for those injured.
