Indianapolis, IN (February 26, 2025) – An 84-year-old woman suffered critical injuries after a house fire broke out on the eastside of Indianapolis early Tuesday morning.
The Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) responded to reports of a fire around 4:38 a.m. at a residence on Windridge Dr near 56th St. When crews arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames, with heavy fire spreading through the attic.
Firefighters entered the burning home and found the woman unconscious in her bedroom. They successfully rescued her just moments before the roof collapsed. Officials say the woman had closed her bedroom door, which prevented smoke from entering and may have helped her survive the intense fire.
Paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and an investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the victim and her loved ones during this difficult time.
