Independence, AR (October 23, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred early Tuesday morning at approximately 4:39 AM on State Highway 69 at OMP Feed Mill, resulting in the death of one individual. The incident involved a collision between a 2006 Kenworth truck and a 2021 Peterbilt truck.
According to preliminary reports, the Kenworth was traveling southbound on State Highway 69 when the Peterbilt entered the highway from a private drive in an attempt to make a left turn and head northbound. The front of the Kenworth struck the trailer of the Peterbilt, causing both vehicles to come to a stop on the highway. Following the collision, both the Kenworth and the trailer of the Peterbilt caught fire.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find that the driver of the Kenworth, identified as 49-year-old Malcom Hix from Batesville, was deceased. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the occupants of the Peterbilt. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the factors that contributed to this unfortunate incident.
