Idaho Falls, ID (January 10, 2025) – Idaho State Police are investigating a three-vehicle injury crash that occurred Thursday afternoon on US-26 at East 49th North, east of Idaho Falls. The accident took place around 2:18 PM and caused significant disruptions in the westbound lanes.
Authorities reported that a black Cadillac XT5, driven by a 44-year-old female from Idaho Falls, was traveling eastbound on E 49th North. Meanwhile, a commercial semi attempting to turn onto westbound E 49th North blocked the Cadillac driver’s view. Simultaneously, a green Toyota 4Runner, driven by a 34-year-old male from Rigby, was traveling westbound in lane one. The Toyota collided with the Cadillac, causing the Cadillac to lose control. The Toyota then crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking a gray Ford Escape driven by a 49-year-old female from Ammon.
The Ford driver sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance. All individuals involved in the crash were wearing seat belts, which likely helped reduce the severity of injuries.
Westbound lanes were blocked for approximately one hour while emergency crews, including Idaho Falls EMS and Fire, worked to clear the scene and assist those involved. The Idaho Transportation Department also provided support at the site.
The crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Idaho
Accidents involving multiple vehicles, such as the one on US-26, underscore the potential dangers of complex traffic scenarios, including limited visibility and high-speed roads. In Idaho, intersections and turning maneuvers often contribute to such collisions, especially when large commercial vehicles are involved.
Drivers are reminded to approach intersections and merging lanes with caution, ensuring clear visibility and adherence to traffic signals. Maintaining focus and following safe driving practices can help prevent similar accidents.
