Hughesville, MD (September 16, 2024) – Early Sunday, September 15, a fatal motorcycle accident occurred on MD Route 5 near Old Leonardtown Rd. Maryland State Police responded to the scene at approximately 2:41 AM. A preliminary investigation revealed that 20-year-old Connor McCarthy of Mechanicsville was operating an unregistered 2008 Suzuki GSXR-750 at high speed when he lost control.

McCarthy failed to navigate a curve and crashed into a guardrail. Emergency services arrived but pronounced McCarthy dead at the scene. Authorities believe speed, alcohol, and driver error were contributing factors.
