Our thoughts are with the pedestrian as he recovers from his injuries.
Pedestrian Accidents in Michigan
Pedestrian accidents can happen quickly, and the consequences are often severe, as demonstrated by this crash in Hudsonville. In Michigan, pedestrians are involved in hundreds of accidents annually, many of which occur when individuals cross streets outside of designated crosswalks or fail to assess traffic conditions properly. In this particular case, the 71-year-old pedestrian misjudged the oncoming traffic and was struck as a result.
Pedestrian safety remains a critical issue in Michigan, especially in urban areas like Hudsonville where traffic is often busy. According to state statistics, pedestrian accidents account for a significant portion of road fatalities and injuries. It is crucial for both drivers and pedestrians to be mindful of safety. What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident
If you are involved in a pedestrian accident, whether as a victim or a witness, there are several important steps to follow to ensure safety and protect your legal rights:
- Seek Immediate Medical Attention: Even if the injuries appear minor, it’s essential to get checked by a medical professional. Some injuries, like internal trauma or head injuries, may not be immediately apparent.
- Contact Law Enforcement: Always report the accident to the authorities. In cases where the pedestrian is struck outside of a crosswalk, it’s important to have a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
- Gather Information: If you are a witness to the accident, try to take note of key details, such as the make and model of the vehicle, the driver’s information, and any factors that may have contributed to the accident.
- Consult Legal Help: Victims of pedestrian accidents may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. It’s advisable to consult with a personal injury attorney who can guide you through the legal process.
