Howland Township, OH (October 22, 2024) – A tragic car accident occurred on October 21 in Trumbull County, resulting in one fatality and leaving another person hospitalized. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reported that the incident took place just before 7 p.m. on Pine Avenue SE.
According to authorities, a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was traveling northbound on Pine Avenue SE when the driver, identified as 52-year-old Michael Campbell, failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle veered off the road, struck a guardrail, and subsequently entered a ditch and wooded area. As the car traveled through the brush, it flipped over multiple times before coming to rest on its roof.
Both the driver and a 50-year-old passenger from Milton, Florida, were ejected from the vehicle as they were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Sadly, Michael Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene, while the passenger was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
The accident prompted the closure of a significant portion of Pine Avenue SE between Burton Street SE and Deforest Road SE as emergency responders worked at the scene. The OSHP is currently investigating the incident, and preliminary findings suggest that speed, alcohol, and drugs may have contributed to the crash.
