Howell Twp, MI (February 28, 2025) – A devastating two-vehicle crash on I-96 in Howell Township claimed the lives of three people and left two others seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office released details of the accident on Thursday.
Deputies responded to reports of a collision on eastbound I-96 around 3:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they found that a 2010 BMW, which had been traveling westbound, had crossed the median and entered the eastbound lanes, colliding with a 2006 Mercury SUV.
The driver of the BMW, a 54-year-old man from Sterling Heights, was transported to Sparrow Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Mercury, a 68-year-old man from Fowlerville, and a passenger, a 91-year-old Howell woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two other passengers in the Mercury, a 69-year-old woman and a 37-year-old woman, were seriously injured and transported to the University of Michigan Hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet determined if alcohol played a role in the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
