According to preliminary reports from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Myers was driving a 2003 Honda Accord eastbound on US Highway 18. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Joseph Daniel Myers during this grieving time.
Seatbelt Safety and Passing Risks in South Dakota
Fatal crashes, such as this one on US Highway 18, underscore the critical importance of seatbelt use and the risks associated with passing maneuvers on two-lane highways. Seatbelts significantly reduce the likelihood of fatal injuries in high-impact collisions, and losing control while overtaking can have devastating consequences.
South Dakota’s traffic safety initiatives aim to educate drivers on safe passing practices, emphasize the use of seatbelts, and enforce traffic laws to reduce accidents. Despite these efforts, rural highways remain challenging environments due to limited visibility, higher speeds, and varying road conditions.
For those impacted by fatal crashes, the emotional and financial aftermath can be overwhelming. Professional guidance is essential for navigating these challenges and ensuring appropriate support and compensation.
