Deadly Intersection Collisions and Traffic Safety in South Carolina
Intersections along high-speed roadways, such as Highway 17 Bypass, are particularly dangerous due to vehicles attempting to cross multiple lanes of traffic. Side-impact crashes, also known as T-bone collisions, are among the most severe types of accidents, often resulting in catastrophic injuries or fatalities.
According to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, thousands of intersection-related crashes occur annually, many of which involve fatalities. Contributing factors in these collisions often include failure to yield, distracted driving, or misjudgment of traffic gaps when pulling onto major roadways.
For those affected by serious or fatal crashes, the emotional and financial toll can be overwhelming. Medical bills, funeral costs, and long-term rehabilitation expenses often follow these devastating incidents. South Carolina follows a fault-based insurance system, meaning that the at-fault driver or their insurer may be responsible for covering damages. However, pursuing fair compensation in cases of severe injury or loss can be complex.
Seeking professional legal guidance can help victims and their families navigate the claims process, ensuring they receive the support they need for recovery.
