Hopkinsville, KY (November 11, 2024) – A woman sustained injuries Monday morning in a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Bethel Street and West 9th Street. Hopkinsville Police and EMS responded promptly to the scene to assist.
Authorities report that 57-year-old Katherine Delaney was driving southbound on Bethel Street when her car collided with an eastbound truck driven by 64-year-old Robert Cansler of Hopkinsville, who was traveling on West 9th Street. According to police, Cansler was unable to see the traffic light due to glare from the sun, which contributed to the crash.
Delaney was transported by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for medical treatment. No updates on her condition have been released.
The incident remains under investigation as authorities review the factors involved.
Our thoughts are with Katherine Delaney, and we hope for her full recovery.
Intersection Accidents and Sun Glare Hazards
Intersection collisions, such as the one at Bethel Street and West 9th Street, are common and can be exacerbated by environmental factors like sun glare. Sun glare, particularly during early morning or late afternoon, can obscure visibility and make it difficult for drivers to see traffic lights, pedestrians, or other vehicles.
To reduce the risk of accidents caused by sun glare, drivers are encouraged to wear polarized sunglasses, keep windshields clean, and use vehicle sun visors when needed. Slowing down and exercising extra caution at intersections can also help prevent collisions.
