Holland Township, MI (October 24, 2024) – A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday evening involving a semi-tractor trailer and an SUV on U.S. 31 at Quincy Street. The incident was reported at approximately 6:43 p.m. and resulted in injuries to two individuals.
According to the Ottawa County sheriff’s deputies, a 52-year-old man from Zeeland was driving a Toyota RAV4 east on Quincy Street when he had a green light and attempted to cross U.S. 31. As he entered the intersection, his vehicle was struck by a southbound 2015 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer that reportedly ran a red light. The force of the collision trapped both occupants of the SUV in the wreckage, necessitating the response of Holland Township firefighters to free them.
The driver of the RAV4 and an 18-year-old male passenger, also from Zeeland, were transported to Holland Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A third passenger, a 49-year-old woman from Holland, was unharmed in the crash. All occupants of the SUV were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
The truck driver, a 34-year-old man from Illinois, was not injured and was also wearing a seat belt. Following the crash, the southbound lanes of U.S. 31 were closed for an extended period while police conducted their investigation and debris was cleared from the roadway.
Emergency medical services, including Life EMS and American Medical Response paramedics, assisted at the scene.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this unfortunate accident, and we wish them a swift recovery.
Semi-Truck Accidents in Michigan
