Hewitt, TX (January 15, 2025) – A devastating early morning crash on I-35 in the McLennan County area claimed the life of one person and left six others injured. The collision involved multiple vehicles, including passenger cars and truck tractor semi-trailers, prompting an extensive emergency response.
According to the Lorena Police Department and Robinson Volunteer Fire Department, the crash occurred in the northbound lanes at Mile Marker 328 near Hewitt. Emergency crews arrived to find a truck tractor fully engulfed in flames among a total of nine vehicles involved in the wreck. Preliminary investigations by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) indicate the crash began when a truck tractor-semi trailer failed to adjust its speed to traffic slowing a road crew, and leading to a chain-reaction collision.
Tragically, Jennifer James, 39, of Lorena, was pronounced dead at the scene. Six others were transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waco for treatment of injuries. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
All northbound lanes of I-35 have been closed as authorities work to clear the scene and investigate the incident. Traffic is being diverted to the service road at Exit 328, Sun Valley Blvd, and Spring Valley Rd. Drivers are urged to use alternate routes, as delays are expected to continue until approximately 6 p.m.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Jennifer James, as well as those injured in this tragic accident. We extend our deepest sympathies during this difficult time.
Multi-Vehicle Accidents in Texas
Texas highways, such as I-35, are often the sites of serious multi-vehicle collisions due to high traffic volumes and diverse roadway conditions. Incidents involving semi-trailers and passenger vehicles frequently result in severe injuries and fatalities, given the size and weight disparity between vehicles.
In such cases, victims and their families may face significant medical expenses, emotional trauma, and legal complexities. Seeking immediate medical attention and consulting with experienced professionals can provide vital support. Texas law allows victims to pursue compensation for damages, including medical bills, lost wages, and emotional distress.
