Hernando County, FL (March 7, 2025) – A 45-year-old man from Spring Hill lost his life in a single-vehicle rollover crash late Thursday night on the Suncoast Parkway (SR-589). His nine-year-old son, who was a passenger in the vehicle, survived with minor injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the crash occurred at approximately 11:40 p.m. near mile marker 42. Investigators believe the driver suffered a medical emergency while traveling southbound, causing him to lose control of his Nissan Sentra.
The vehicle veered off the roadway and into the median, overturning in the process. Tragically, the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the car. Both he and his son, who was properly restrained, were transported to a nearby hospital, where the driver later succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our hearts go out to the victim’s family, and we extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time.
Rollover Crashes and Seatbelt Safety in Florida
Rollover crashes are among the most dangerous types of vehicle accidents, often resulting in severe or fatal injuries. Factors such as high speeds, sudden steering maneuvers, and medical emergencies can contribute to these incidents.
One of the most significant safety measures in preventing fatal injuries during rollovers is seatbelt use. Studies show that wearing a seatbelt can significantly reduce the risk of ejection and increase survival rates in crashes. In this tragic incident, the child’s proper restraint likely helped minimize injuries, while the unrestrained driver suffered fatal consequences.
Drivers should always prioritize their health and safety behind the wheel. If you or a loved one has a known medical condition that could impair driving, consulting with a doctor and considering alternative transportation options can help prevent serious accidents.
If you or a family member has been involved in a rollover crash, seeking medical attention and legal guidance is essential.
