Henry County, OH (September 3, 2024) – A three-vehicle crash in Henry County claimed the life of a 90-year-old Napoleon resident on Monday afternoon. Harriet Schroeder was driving south on County Rd 17D around 1:30 p.m. when she stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with US 24. A pickup truck, driven by a 38-year-old from Defiance, failed to maintain a safe distance and struck Schroeder’s vehicle from behind.
The impact pushed Schroeder’s car into the intersection, where it was hit by a semi-truck heading west on US 24. Schroeder was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck driver and the semi-truck driver, a 38-year-old from Ontario, Canada, received treatment at the scene.
Authorities are investigating the crash, although alcohol is not suspected, and all parties wore seat belts. Further details will be provided as the inquiry into the cause of the incident progresses.
