Hastings, MI  (October 26, 2024)  – A tragic head-on collision occurred Friday afternoon, October 25 near Hastings, resulting in one fatality and injuries to another driver. The incident took place around 1:20 p.m. when deputies from the Barry County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene at State Road near Wood School Road.

Initial reports indicate that a Mercury Milan, traveling southeast, crossed the center line of State Road and collided head-on with a Lincoln Navigator traveling northwest. The driver of the Mercury, identified as 23-year-old Tristin Prentice from Hastings, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Lincoln Navigator, a 41-year-old woman from Clarksville, sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of now, the extent of her injuries has not been disclosed.

The Barry County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic crash.
