Hasbrouck Heights, NJ (March 7, 2025) – A tragic multi-vehicle collision on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights left one person dead and two others injured on Thursday evening. The crash, which occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. near the Franklin Avenue intersection, involved a box truck, a Jeep Wrangler, and two SUVs.
Firefighters reported that the crash left a debris field spanning more than 150 yards, with one of the vehicles colliding with a pole. The wreckage extended over 500 feet along the southbound highway. Emergency crews worked to extricate the victims from the mangled vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that a 30-year-old male driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals sustained injuries and were transported to Hackensack University Medical Center for treatment. Their current conditions have not been disclosed.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Fatal Accident Investigations Unit is conducting an inquiry into the cause of the crash, working alongside Hasbrouck Heights police and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Crime Identification. Firefighters also managed a fuel spill resulting from the collision.
The southbound lanes of Route 17 were temporarily shut down at Williams Avenue while investigators and cleanup crews worked at the scene.
