Harrison County, MS (February 20, 2025) – A woman tragically lost her life, and three others were injured following a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 49 in Harrison County on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) responded to the crash at approximately 3:40 p.m. An initial investigation revealed that 44-year-old Tomika Lane, of Saucier, was driving a 2003 Toyota Echo southbound on U.S. 49 with two juvenile passengers, ages 14 and 15.
As the Echo traveled through the intersection at Nobles Road, it collided with a westbound 2015 Honda Odyssey driven by 25-year-old Brianna Cruthirds, also of Saucier.
Emergency medical personnel transported all four individuals involved in the crash to a local hospital. Sadly, Lane later succumbed to her injuries. The conditions of the two juveniles and Cruthirds have not yet been released.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the accident.
Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Tomika Lane, and we wish the injured a full recovery.
Car Accidents in Mississippi
Intersections, like the one at U.S. 49 and Nobles Road, are among the most common locations for serious car accidents. Collisions frequently occur due to misjudged right-of-way, failure to yield, distracted driving, or excessive speed.
In crashes involving multiple occupants, injuries can vary in severity, from minor bruises to life-threatening trauma. Tragically, some victims, like Tomika Lane, do not survive, leaving families to cope with the emotional and financial burden of sudden loss.
When an accident results from another driver’s negligence, injured parties or surviving family members may have the right to seek compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. Investigators will continue examining the circumstances of Tuesday’s crash to determine whether any contributing factors, such as failure to yield or distracted driving, played a role.
