Harrison County, MO (February 6, 2025) – A hit-and-run accident on southbound I-35 near mile marker 114 left one driver injured late Wednesday morning. The crash, which occurred around 11:00 a.m., involved two vehicles traveling in the same direction, one of which fled the scene.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Ford F250, driven by a 51-year-old man from Oakwood, Oklahoma, was traveling southbound on I-35 when it was sideswiped by an unidentified vehicle near the center of the roadway. After the initial impact, the Ford veered off the east side of the highway, overturned, and struck a guardrail. The truck eventually came to rest on top of the guardrail, upright but facing north.

The driver of the Ford sustained injuries and was transported to Harrison County Community Hospital by North Harrison EMS for treatment. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Schroff’s. The second vehicle involved in the crash did not stop, and its identity and whereabouts remain unknown at this time.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, North Harrison EMS, and North Harrison Fire assisted at the scene. Authorities are actively investigating the incident and are seeking any information related to the hit-and-run vehicle. Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for his swift recovery.

Hit-and-Run Accidents in Missouri

Hit-and-run accidents, like the one that occurred on I-35 in Harrison County, present significant challenges for both victims and law enforcement. When a driver flees the scene of a crash, it complicates the process of determining fault, securing insurance claims, and seeking justice for the injured party. In Missouri, leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offense that can result in severe legal consequences, including fines, license suspension, and even imprisonment.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement agencies rely heavily on eyewitness accounts and public tips to locate hit-and-run drivers. In many cases, surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras or businesses can also provide valuable leads. For victims of hit-and-run accidents, it’s essential to document as much information as possible, including vehicle descriptions, license plate numbers, and the direction in which the fleeing vehicle traveled.

In this particular incident, the driver of the Ford F250 was fortunate to escape with minor injuries, especially considering the vehicle overturned and struck a guardrail. However, the emotional and financial toll of such accidents can be significant, particularly when the responsible party is not held accountable.

Drivers can reduce the risk of being involved in hit-and-run accidents by practicing defensive driving, staying aware of their surroundings, and maintaining safe distances from other vehicles. In the event of a crash, it’s important to remain calm, call 911 immediately, and provide detailed information to the responding officers.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a hit-and-run accident, seeking legal and medical assistance is crucial. Professionals can help navigate the complex process of filing insurance claims and pursuing compensation, even when the at-fault driver is unknown.
