Pedestrian Accidents in South Carolina
Pedestrian fatalities remain a growing concern in South Carolina, particularly on rural roads like SC-363, where street lighting and pedestrian infrastructure may be limited. Many pedestrian accidents occur due to low visibility, driver distraction, failure to yield, or a pedestrian crossing outside of designated areas. Early morning or nighttime crashes tend to be especially dangerous, as reduced visibility increases the likelihood of collisions.
When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the results are often devastating. Unlike drivers, pedestrians have no protection from the force of impact, leading to severe injuries such as head trauma, internal bleeding, fractures, and spinal cord damage. In many cases, these injuries prove fatal before emergency responders can provide medical care.
Families who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident often face emotional and financial hardships, including funeral costs, medical bills, and loss of companionship. South Carolina law allows families of wrongful death victims to pursue compensation if driver negligence played a role in the crash. Establishing liability requires reviewing traffic laws, accident reports, road conditions, and possible contributing factors such as driver speed and visibility issues.
