Hamilton, NJ (January 4, 2024) – A tragic series of crashes on the New Jersey Turnpike in Mercer County resulted in the death of a 39-year-old man on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. near milepost 59.2, about three-quarters of a mile south of Exit 7A.
Authorities identified the victim as Moise Delva of Westbury, New York. He was exiting his Toyota Camry following an earlier crash when he was struck by a passing Honda Pilot. Delva was pronounced dead at the scene.
Delva lost control of his Toyota Camry on the inner roadway, striking the center barrier. His vehicle slid back onto the toll road, where it collided with a Kia Sorento before hitting the median again and stopping on the left shoulder. The driver of the Kia exited their vehicle, which was subsequently struck by a Ford Fusion. The impact pushed the Kia across the southbound lanes and onto the right shoulder.
Delva and an 18-year-old EMT from Lakewood, who had stopped to provide assistance, were both hit by the Honda Pilot. The EMT sustained minor injuries, as did the driver of the Ford Fusion, authorities said. The crashes, which involved multiple vehicles and lanes, remain under investigation by New Jersey State Police. Traffic was significantly impacted as authorities worked to assess the scene and manage the series of collisions.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
