Groveland, FL (December 17, 2024) – A tragic two-car collision occurred Monday afternoon on County Road 33 and Soto Road in Groveland, Lake County, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 12:13 PM EST. Officials reported that a 2008 Chevrolet HHR was traveling southbound on County Road 33, while a 2015 Ford Fusion was heading northbound on the same road, both approaching Soto Road. The Chevrolet reportedly veered out of its lane and into the direct path of the Ford, resulting in a devastating collision.
Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene to assist those involved. The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Chevrolet sustained critical injuries and was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The driver of the Ford was also transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers confirmed that portions of County Road 33 and Soto Road were temporarily closed as crews worked to assist victims, investigate the crash, and clear the wreckage. The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
