Gresham, OR (February 22, 2025) – A pedestrian succumbed to his injuries on Saturday after being struck by a vehicle in Gresham the day before, authorities confirmed.
According to Gresham Police, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian crash in the 3800 block of Northeast Hogan Rd on Wednesday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from what was initially believed to be a non-life-threatening leg injury. The individual was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Investigators determined that the crash occurred at a relatively slow speed, and there was no indication that the driver was impaired. However, authorities cited the driver for Careless Driving contributing to an accident involving a vulnerable user of a public way.
Tragically, the pedestrian’s condition worsened, and he later died from his injuries at the hospital. The victim’s identity has not been released at this time.
An ongoing investigation will further assess the factors leading to the accident.
Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones during this difficult time.
Pedestrian Accidents in Oregon
Pedestrian-related accidents remain a serious concern across Oregon, particularly in urban areas like Gresham where high traffic volumes and pedestrian activity increase the risk of collisions.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), pedestrian fatalities have steadily increased in recent years, with common causes including:
- Driver inattention or failure to yield
- Low visibility conditions
- Speeding in pedestrian-heavy zones
- Failure to obey traffic signals or crosswalk laws
Even low-speed impacts can lead to severe or fatal injuries, particularly for elderly individuals or those with underlying health conditions. Pedestrian accidents often result in costly medical expenses, long-term rehabilitation, and devastating emotional losses for families.
Understanding one’s legal rights following a pedestrian accident is crucial, especially when dealing with insurance claims, liability concerns, or wrongful death cases.
