Greenwich, CT (October 23, 2024) – A serious accident occurred Tuesday morning involving a 14-year-old boy on a bicycle and a vehicle in the area of Hillside Road and Fairfield Avenue. The incident, which took place shortly after 7 a.m., led to a road closure for approximately two hours as emergency responders managed the situation.
According to police reports, the boy, who was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, struck his head against the front windshield of the vehicle. He was conscious but disoriented when police arrived on the scene. Emergency personnel transported him to Stamford Hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries.
Initial investigations suggest that the boy was riding his bicycle along or on Fairfield Road and may have been attempting to cross the roadway to turn onto Hillside Road when he collided with a vehicle that was also traveling on Fairfield and turning onto Hillside. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was cooperative with the police investigation. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries to the driver or any passengers in the vehicle.
During the road closure, local buses were rerouted to ensure the safety of students attending nearby schools, including Greenwich High School, Greenwich Country Day School, and Central Middle School.
Our thoughts are with the young cyclist as he recovers from this incident.
