Greenland, NH (November 21, 2024) – A serious multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 95 near mile marker 10.8 in Greenland caused extensive injuries and resulted in the closure of the highway for nearly five hours on Wednesday night. The crash occurred at approximately 9:10 PM and involved several vehicles, prompting a massive response from emergency personnel.
The initial collision involved a 2017 Volkswagen Golf, driven by 26-year-old Thomas J. Daneault of Merrimack, NH, and a 2022 Toyota 4Runner, driven by 29-year-old Adam A. Woods of Ipswich, MA. According to preliminary investigations, the Volkswagen rear-ended the Toyota, causing the Toyota to veer off the road and come to a stop on an embankment. Following this, the Volkswagen crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes of I-95.
Daneault’s vehicle was struck from behind by a 2024 Volkswagen Golf GTI driven by 49-year-old Christopher J. Dimare of Portsmouth, NH. The impact caused Daneault’s car to spin into the roadway and ignite into flames. Daneault, who was ejected from the vehicle, sustained potentially life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Dimare also suffered serious injuries and was transported for treatment. The driver of the Toyota was evaluated for minor injuries, and a passenger in the Toyota was uninjured.
Emergency crews, including State Troopers and members of local police and fire departments, worked quickly to secure the scene and provide aid to those injured. The crash caused significant damage and created a large debris field, requiring extensive cleanup efforts.
Due to the severity of the accident and the need for a thorough investigation, the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (C.A.R.) Unit was deployed to assist Troop A. Both northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 were closed, with traffic diverted off Exit 2 in Hampton and Exit 3 in Portsmouth. The interstate reopened at 2:07 AM after the vehicles were removed and the scene was cleared.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this accident, and we hope for their swift and full recovery.
