Greenfield, MA (January 28, 2025) – A 66-year-old Westfield man tragically lost his life in a workplace accident at a concrete facility located on Cleveland St in Greenfield. Authorities confirmed that the man was recovered deceased from a silo used for mixing dry ingredients for cement production.
According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office, co-workers last saw the man climbing to the top of a silo tower at the Chicopee-based facility. When he failed to return radio calls and appeared to be missing, it was presumed he had fallen into the silo. The Greenfield Fire Department was alerted at approximately 8:54 a.m. and responded promptly to the scene.
Despite extensive rescue efforts involving multiple agencies, the situation transitioned into a recovery operation by 10:15 a.m., as stated by the fire department. The man’s body was recovered around 4:30 p.m. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
