Greene County, MO (September 25, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on September 24 at approximately 9:50 PM on US 65, about five miles north of Springfield. The collision involved two vehicles and resulted in serious injuries and a fatality.
According to the investigation, a 2014 Ford F150, driven by 79-year-old Harold R. Williams from Elkland, MO, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when it struck a 2010 Honda Civic head-on. The driver of the Honda Civic, 20-year-old Cooper M. Roy from Fair Grove, MO, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Springfield for medical care.
Unfortunately, Williams was pronounced dead at 7:21 AM on September 25 at Mercy Hospital, marking the 81st traffic fatality for Troop D in 2024. Next of kin have been notified of his passing. Both drivers were using safety devices at the time of the crash, which emphasizes the importance of seatbelt use in mitigating injuries during collisions.
