Greene Co., MO (December 20, 2024) – A two-vehicle collision occurred Thursday evening on Farm Road 163, one mile south of Springfield, leaving one person injured and both vehicles heavily damaged. Emergency responders provided swift assistance at the scene.

The crash happened at approximately 6:53 PM when a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 48-year-old male from Ozark, MO, attempted to make a left turn. The Impala turned into the path of a 2017 Nissan Rogue traveling northbound, resulting in a head-on collision.

The driver of the Nissan Rogue, a 64-year-old female from Nixa, MO, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for medical care. The driver of the Chevrolet Impala was not reported injured. Both vehicles were totaled and were towed by Henry’s Wrecker and Henry’s Towing of Brookline.

Missouri State Highway Patrol conducted an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Updates on the investigation are pending. Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery.

Head-On Collisions in Missouri

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of accidents, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities due to the force of impact. These crashes typically occur on two-lane roads, especially when drivers attempt left turns without ensuring the path is clear, as seen in this incident on Farm Road 163.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), improper left turns and failure to yield are significant contributors to head-on collisions statewide. Rural roads, like Farm Road 163, are particularly prone to such incidents due to narrower lanes and less visibility.

Victims of head-on collisions may face a range of physical, emotional, and financial challenges. Seeking appropriate medical care and understanding legal options for compensation can help individuals and families recover and rebuild.
