The incident took place shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday when the young cyclist attempted to cross Dale Mabry Highway against the traffic signal at Mapledale Boulevard.
According to police reports, a 17-year-old girl was driving a Honda Accord southbound on Dale Mabry Highway, following a Mazda CX-5 driven by a 60-year-old woman from Tampa. As the bicyclist crossed the highway, he was struck by the Honda, which subsequently rear-ended the Mazda.
