Goshen, IN (October 30, 2024) – A serious accident occurred on Saturday, October 28, resulting in injuries to two pedestrians. The incident took place around 2:19 p.m. on Lincoln Avenue as a 16-year-old driver attempted to turn left onto Riverside Boulevard.
According to the Goshen Police Department, Rachel A. Horton, driving a gray 2006 Honda CRV, was traveling west on Lincoln Avenue when she failed to yield to a blue 2022 Hyundai Elantra driven by 25-year-old Kush N. Simpura, who was traveling east. Horton’s maneuver caused a collision that forced Simpura’s vehicle off the roadway and onto the sidewalk in the 100 block of Riverside Boulevard.
The vehicle struck a pole before hitting two pedestrians: 45-year-old Melissa Conlee and 28-year-old Saul Perez, both of Goshen. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and transported Conlee and Perez to Elkhart General Hospital, where they were treated for severe injuries—Conlee for an internal abdominal injury and Perez for severe bleeding to the head.
Both Horton and Simpura were also taken to Goshen Hospital, where they consented to blood draws due to the serious nature of the crash.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and police have indicated that drivers may be facing criminal charges as a result of the incident.
