Goshen, IN (February 26, 2025) – A tragic motorcycle crash on State Road 15 at County Road 26 claimed the life of 17-year-old Amelia Sneddon on Tuesday afternoon.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred at approximately 3:11 p.m. when a 2006 Ford Mustang, driven by 54-year-old Jodi Nagle of Goshen, pulled out of a private driveway at the intersection, attempting to travel west. At the same time, Sneddon was riding her 2014 Kawasaki Ninja northbound on S.R. 15.
Authorities say the Mustang failed to yield, causing the motorcycle to strike the rear driver’s side of the car. The impact threw Sneddon from the motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries. Despite wearing a helmet, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nagle, who was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the crash, was later arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI) causing death under the influence of cannabis.
The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
Our thoughts are with Amelia Sneddon’s family and loved ones during this heartbreaking time.
Motorcycle Safety and Impaired Driving Risks in Indiana
Motorcyclists face significant dangers on the road, especially when other drivers fail to yield or drive under the influence. The collision at S.R. 15 and C.R. 26 highlights the devastating consequences of driver impairment and failure to observe motorcycles in traffic.
According to the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, motorcycle fatalities account for a disproportionate number of roadway deaths each year. Studies show that in many of these incidents, another driver’s failure to yield is a primary factor. Motorcycles are smaller and less visible than passenger vehicles, making it critical for drivers to check their surroundings before pulling out into traffic.
Impaired driving, whether due to alcohol or cannabis, is another serious threat on Indiana roads. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that even small amounts of THC can slow reaction time, impair judgment, and affect coordination, increasing the risk of fatal crashes.
To help prevent tragic accidents like this, all motorists are urged to remain sober behind the wheel, obey traffic laws, and be especially mindful of motorcycles at intersections and driveways.
