Gooding, ID (February 1, 2025) – A serious crash involving a pickup truck and a semi with two tanker trailers temporarily blocked both northbound and southbound traffic along Idaho Route 46 south of Gooding on Thursday night. According to Idaho State Police (ISP), the crash occurred at approximately 7:02 p.m. when a 50-year-old man driving a pickup truck failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of the highway and East 2300 South.
The pickup truck collided with the semi, which was traveling along the highway, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and airlifted the pickup driver to a hospital with serious injuries. His condition remains serious but stable. The driver of the semi was unharmed in the crash.
The incident caused a complete closure of both directions of Idaho Route 46 for about four and a half hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and secure the scene. The road was reopened to regular traffic at 11:27 p.m., allowing congestion to subside. The crash caused significant traffic delays, and travelers were advised to seek alternate routes during the closure.
The Idaho State Police is continuing its investigation into the crash, and the exact cause of the collision has yet to be determined. Authorities are working to determine whether factors such as speed, driver error, or other circumstances contributed to the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver, and we hope for a full and swift recovery.
Traffic Accidents on Idaho Route 46
Idaho Route 46, a busy highway connecting key points in southern Idaho, sees a significant amount of traffic, especially during peak travel hours. Collisions involving large trucks, such as this one with the semi, can lead to serious delays, dangerous road conditions, and, as seen in this case, severe injuries.
When large commercial vehicles like semis are involved in accidents, the results can be especially hazardous due to their size and weight. Additionally, accidents at intersections—like the one at East 2300 South—are particularly concerning because of the increased likelihood of vehicles entering the highway without proper caution.
For those involved in crashes, it’s critical to seek immediate medical care, even if the injuries seem minor. In situations like this, where serious injuries occur, victims should also consult with an attorney to help manage insurance claims, medical bills, and potential compensation for lost wages and suffering.
