Gonzales, LA (December 13, 2024) – A tragic two-vehicle crash occurred on December 11, just before 2:00 p.m., at the intersection of US 61 and LA 621 in Ascension Parish. The crash claimed the life of 67-year-old Juanita Holland of Gonzales.
According to Louisiana State Police Troop A, the preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Buick Enclave was traveling northbound on US 61 and entered the left-turn lane to turn onto LA 621. At the same time, a 2017 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound on US 61, approaching the intersection with LA 621. For reasons still under investigation, the Buick failed to yield to oncoming traffic and entered the intersection, resulting in a collision with the passenger side of the Buick.
Juanita Holland, the front-seat passenger of the Buick, was unrestrained and sustained severe injuries. She was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The drivers of both vehicles were properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries. They were also transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
At this time, impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, though toxicology samples from both drivers will be taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
