Glide, OR (September 11, 2024) – A tragic head-on collision early Monday morning, September 9, claimed the life of a Douglas County motorcyclist on Highway 138 East near Glide. Oregon State Police reported that the crash occurred around 6:07 a.m. near milepost 18, approximately one mile east of Glide. Thomas Lee Bailey, 38, from Idleyld Park, was riding his red Yamaha motorcycle westbound when a Jeep Cherokee turning left collided with him head-on in the westbound lane.
Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep, who was unharmed, cooperated with the investigation following the incident. The crash led to approximately three hours of road closures on Highway 138 East as authorities conducted their on-scene investigation. Supporting the OSP at the crash site were the Oregon Department of Transportation, Glide Fire Department, and the National Park Service.
The investigation into the circumstances of the fatal crash is ongoing.
