Georgetown, DE (October 11, 2024) – A tragic accident occurred on October 10, resulting in the death of a young man. At approximately 2:33 p.m. on October 10, Delaware State Police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hardscrabble Road near Landfill Lane.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a Peterbilt 567 roll-off container truck was traveling westbound on Hardscrabble Road while a Nissan Sentra was approaching from the opposite direction, traveling eastbound. As the Peterbilt initiated a left turn onto Landfill Lane, it entered the path of the Sentra. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the Sentra swerved to the right; however, the front of the Sentra struck the front left side of the truck.
The driver of the Sentra, a 20-year-old man from Georgetown, was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family. The driver of the Peterbilt, a 30-year-old man from Seaford, was reported to be uninjured in the incident.
As a result of the crash, Hardscrabble Road was closed for approximately four hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
