Officials reported that a car driven by a 59-year-old Gainesville woman entered State Road 26 (Newberry Road) from NW 109th Drive when it was struck by a motorcycle operated by a 31-year-old man from Archer. The collision resulted in catastrophic damage, leaving the motorcycle on its side and the car overturned at the scene.

All three individuals involved in the crash lost their lives, including the motorcyclist, the car’s driver, and her passenger, a 90-year-old Gainesville woman.

Emergency crews from Alachua County Fire Rescue, the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Westbound Newberry Road was closed between NW 98th Street and NW 122nd Street, while eastbound lanes were shut down from NW 122nd Street to NW 107th Terrace for more than five hours as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this devastating accident.

Motorcycle Accidents in Florida

Motorcycle accidents often result in severe injuries or fatalities due to the exposed nature of riders. Collisions with larger vehicles, particularly at intersections like Newberry Road and NW 109th Drive, are especially dangerous. These incidents can be caused by various factors, including visibility issues, failure to yield, or driver error.

To reduce the likelihood of such tragedies, drivers are encouraged to remain alert, check for oncoming motorcycles, and yield appropriately when entering busy roadways. Motorcyclists should prioritize wearing protective gear and practicing defensive driving to enhance their safety.
