Gaines County, TX (February 6, 2025) – Mindy Sue Moreno, 35, of Seminole, tragically lost her life in a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning in Gaines County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

The accident occurred just before 9:00 a.m. near the intersection of US 385 and County Road 124. A semi-truck with a towed trailer, driven by Jesus Hernandez, 47, of El Paso, was traveling westbound on County Road 124 when it stopped at the intersection with US 385. According to the DPS crash report, Hernandez failed to yield the right of way and entered the intersection, striking Moreno’s vehicle, which was traveling north in the passing lane on US 385.

Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene. The report noted that both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Foggy weather conditions were present at the time of the crash, potentially contributing to the accident.

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Mindy Sue Moreno during this difficult time.

Understanding Fatal Crashes and Truck Accidents in Texas

Fatal crashes involving semi-trucks are unfortunately common on Texas highways, particularly at intersections like US 385 and County Road 124, where rural roads intersect with major highways. Truck accidents often result in severe consequences due to the size and weight of commercial vehicles, especially when visibility is compromised by weather conditions like fog.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, failure to yield the right of way is a leading cause of crashes in Texas, particularly at rural intersections. Truck drivers must exercise extra caution when navigating intersections, as the risk of severe injury or death increases significantly when a collision involves a large commercial vehicle. Foggy weather further exacerbates these risks by reducing visibility and reaction time for all drivers on the road.

For families affected by fatal truck accidents, the aftermath can be overwhelming, both emotionally and financially. In cases where negligence, such as failure to yield, contributed to the crash, surviving family members may have the right to pursue legal action for wrongful death. Compensation may be available to help cover medical expenses, funeral costs, and loss of income.

If you or someone you know has been affected by a fatal crash, understanding your legal rights and options for recovery is essential to navigating this difficult time.
